Arches National Park isn’t the only place in Moab to see epic arches. If you’re looking for more places to put on your Utah or Moab itinerary, check out these 3 arches that aren’t in the park, but are still as beautiful! All arches are also FREE and less crowded than the National Park!

1. Corona Arch (& bonus: Bowtie Arch)

At a Glance:

  • Hike– 2.3 miles & 469 ft. elevation gain
  • Difficulty– 3/5 only because there is a little slick rock walking, a short little climb with a metal rope to grip, and one ladder to go up. Other than those obstacles, I would just say the hike is steep in the beginning, but an easy walk overall. Some people have mentioned their dogs were not able to make it up FYI.
  • Toilets– Pit toilets at trailhead.
  • Location– Off of road 279. 20 minute drive from the center of Moab. You will see the trailhead parking on your right coming in from town.
  • Check recent trail info, directions, & map here.

This is probably the most well known arch that is not located in the park. That being said, I LOVE Corona Arch. It is huge and pretty incredible to stand underneath. I’ve now done this hike twice, both at sunset. About an hour before the sunset makes for the best photos due to the golden light on the arch. Bowtie is another cool arch you will see on your way to Corona Arch. The scenery surrounding the arches is stunning as well.

2. Wilson Arch

At a Glance:

  • Hike– 0.6 miles & 104 ft. elevation gain.
  • Difficulty– 2/5. This hike is obviously very short, but is steep slick rock and has some drop offs. I saw plenty of people young & old do it so it’s not all that bad!
  • Toilets– None at trailhead.
  • Location– The trail is right off of highway 191. It’s about 25 minutes from the center of Moab.
  • Check out recent trail info, directions, & map here.

I’ve done this hike twice as well, but the first time I didn’t stand under the arch because I was still too ‘new’ to slickrock hiking and I was scared of falling. However, going back to it a year later I found it very easy to walk up to! It’s not exactly a ‘backcountry’ feel, since you’re right next to the highway and can see a neighborhood from the arch, but it makes for a perfect quick stop around Moab!

3. Funnel Arch

At a Glance:

  • Hike– 0.5 miles & 278 ft. elevation gain.
  • Difficulty– 4/5. It’s hard to give this one a rating, because the thing that makes this hard is the technical climbing/ scrambling and route finding. To get to the arch you WILL have to climb up using your legs and hands at times. Careful consideration is important to get up the few places of rock climbing, and I really wouldn’t attempt this alone if you’re not used to this technical hiking, it was also helpful to have someone boost me up or pull me up when needed. There is also no trail or trail markers. We found it just by looking around for it, but I would definitely recommend to download or screenshot the map!
  • Toilets– None at trailhead.
  • Location– Right off of road 114. This trail was hard to find, there are NO signs indicating there is even a trail here. There is a very small dirt parking lot, big enough for a handful of cars. I would put in directions from AllTrails and follow it, instead of putting into Google Maps “Funnel Arch” because it won’t lead you to the right place! It is 15 minutes away from the center of Moab.

The one and only place in Moab that we went where we had a place COMPLETELY to ourselves. The arch is very unknown I think because of the difficulty of the trail and its location. But it was seriously awesome. We spent almost an hour here just climbing everywhere and taking pictures! It’s one of my favorite memories from my last trip to Moab. I also found the challenge of the scrambling and climbing a lot of fun!
