White washed houses dot the rugged cliffs of this stunning Italian island, with glowing cerulean blue grottoes in natural sea caves surrounding it.
Capri is located just a short ferry ride away from the Amalfi Coast, making it the perfect day trip idea.
So pack a swimsuit and let’s jet off.
Just you, me and the Isle of Capri!
Getting there
We took a 30 minute ferry from Sorrento on the Amalfi Coast. We booked the earliest ferry to get there, and the last ferry leaving from Capri to maximize our time.
These ferry tickets cost around 45$ round trip per person. A little pricy, but I think that going to Capri is such a once in a lifetime experience that it was worth it.
Getting around on Capri
We first took a boat tour around the island, more about that below. Afterwards, we bought tickets for a bus that took us from the Marina Grande, to the center of Capri, and to Anacapri where we rode the chairlift, and back down.
For the life of me I can’t remember the company that ran these buses; they were not the public buses. If you walk around the Marina Grande long enough you will most likely encounter guys trying to persuade you to buy tickets to ride in their fleet of blue buses.
This company was not much more expensive compared to the public buses. It was about 15-20 euro for the both of us with unlimited rides. They had many more buses so you didn’t have to wait in long lines, and air conditioning. So, in my opinion, worth the few extra dollars!
What we did
Boat Tour
I searched for ages on the perfect boat tour around the Isle of Capri. Some were astronomically high in price, and others were cheap but didn’t include much of anything to do!
I found the perfect 3 hour tour through Gianni’s Boat on Trip Advisor that included swimming, and was reasonable priced at just 55$ per person! The time we picked was 10am- 1pm.
The three hour tour included snacks and wine, a boat tour around the whole island to admire the beauty and snap pics, swimming in the clearest water I’ve EVER swam in, and passing under the Faraglioni rocks! It was a once in a lifetime experience, and luckily we had fun people on our boat that we got along with great.
Anacapri
The bus ride from the Marina Grande up to Anacapri only takes about 15 minutes. We got up here around 2pm after our boat tour finished and walked around the main square to get a snack.
We then walked up to ride the chair lift to Monte Solaro. A round trip pass will cost you 12 euro each. It was so much fun, just made me feel like a little kid again. Plus, you can’t beat the view from the top.
Capri Town
After exploring Anacapri, we headed down to the center of Capri, walked around and admired the jaw dropping scenery!
We met for the boat tour at Bar Gabbiano which is associated with Gianni’s Boat. The guys here were so nice and friendly, we stopped here after exploring the town of Capri, before boarding our ferry to Sorrento and ate dinner.
Of course we had to have a Caprese salad in Capri before we left! And we had this dessert of espresso over a scoop of vanilla ice cream- sooo good. Good prices, great food, and excellent service- I would recommend stopping here on your trip to Capri.
And that concludes the perfect day trip to Capri from the Amalfi Coast.
I hope you have the chance to explore this magnificent island soon!
